bottle it up

armenian coffee.
my great aunt makes this instead of enjoying a regular cup o' joe.
first you grab a pot called a cezve (pronounced jazz-veh). add water, coffee and sugar and bring it to a boil over the stove. it rises surprisingly quickly.
...i've let it boil over a few times :(

before pouring the coffee into a demitasse cup, you spoon out the foam stuff that sits on top (which my great aunt calls kepuk). according to her, if it's a good cup, then the kepuk will cover the entire top. looks like this one was good : )

ask me and i'll make it for you!

future reflections

ever played mash? all the kids do nowadays...

according to dara and coco, two second-graders, i will...
live in a mansion (score!)
marry roger (the teacher at work who's had the same partner for 15 years)
honeymoon in the "bamas" (commonly known as the bajamas)
own cats (yeah right)
have 100 children (good thing i have a mansion)

what an exciting future! ha but really, this was pretty entertaining.

viva la vida

"This Fishbowl Sink concept is a unique way to get people to preserve water. The water in the fishbowl decreases as you wash your hands. The idea is to force people to shut the water off in order to save the fish. Once the faucet is off, the water refills."

better together

hello there.

easing back into the blog world with a new layout.
...and video. the quality isn't terrible, but the audio is what's important. i admitted defeat trying to upload my own.

i left the show feeling content. just simple music with some meaningful lyrics.
and lots of memories.

overboard

my words of advice to drake:

you, sir, are not lil wayne.

we know he's in jail for a year, but we won't forget him in that time span. especially since i'm sure he recorded a shit ton of songs to release while he's in the slammer.

so please, lose the auto tune. ie, no more songs like "over".

fairytale

pushing daisies is MAGICAL.

it's like stardust in tv form.
tim burton-esque visually, but sweet and quirky rather than odd or disturbing.

definitely for a certain audience. a certain audience like me.

cheaper than therapy

do i believe in karma?

good things happen to people that make bad decisions all the time. and vice versa.

end of the road

the looming question on my mind lately: am i excited for spring quarter?
(specifically regarding camp, that is)

and my simple answer is: yes. DUH.

at first it saddened me that we're all going to be split up. it still does, a little. it's hard to imagine going through training with different people.

i had an incredible experience my first year.
and i'm really thankful for it.

but i finally realized that it doesn't mean that this time will be any less great. the session number shouldn't matter. and i feel kinda lame that it took me more than a second to get there. seriously the wrong attitude.

in the beginning, i joined for the kids. i didn't know anyone and pretty much didn't have any expectations.

that's what it's really about. sometimes people get caught up in their circle of friends, and i'm definitely not exempt from that. but i don't want to be one of those people that can't adjust and doesn't give their second year a fair chance.

so you know what? bring on the training. cause i am counting down the days to be up in the san bernardino mountains again.

muchwoodseylove.

walk on water or drown

stories like this one scare the BEJESUS out of me.

makes me go back and think about the 'planet earth' episode where the orca tosses around a seal for fun before eating it. i believe they said it was "playing with its food".

i think i can cross out animal trainer from my job list.

looks like the real thing

so i was looking up this berry dubbed the "miracle fruit". the characters on united states of tara were eating it, and i wanted to see if it was real.

supposedly if you eat one, it makes anything you eat that's sour taste sweet for 15-30 minutes.

according to cnn health, it "has the color of a cranberry, the shape of an almond and tastes like a flavorless gummy [...] lemons lose their zing and taste like candy. oranges become sickeningly sweet. hot sauce that usually burns the tongue tastes like honey barbecue sauce that scorches as it trickles down the throat.".

it could also apply to alcoholic beverages. or a potential dietary supplement for sugar.

coolest. fruit. ever.

so of course i looked up where i can try this berry.
you can order them...

for the low low price of $2 to $2.50.

PER BERRY.

so much for that.

past in present

i can reminisce like nobody's business.

i went through a lot of memories today... some things i forgot about.
it's weird how little tokens or pictures can vividly bring you right back to days in the past.

good times with some good people. made me smile to myself.

i don't know whether i feel happy that i had those experiences.
or yearn to jump right back into them.

i suppose a little bit of both.

but every day has the possibility for new memories in the making : ]

she's a lady

the queen deserved her own post.

the best things in life are free

recent highlight:

asking dylan: "do you like pho?" and him responding, "mmmm... not sure... i fuhgot".

hello beautiful

anyone that knows me, knows i have a thing for dresses.
i prefer them to pants, especially as i've gotten older.

and red carpet fashion = cloud nine.
so i'm going to tip my hat to a few of my faves from over the years.

my number one. michelle williams. vera wang. golden globes 2006.
some people don't like the color. boo to you. she put together a look.

i like color. patterns. curves. femininity. glamour.
and apparently strapless silhouettes.

here are the rest that have stood out to me for some reason or another.
it was difficult to narrow down. i originally posted twelve.

heidi klum. the best way to accentuate a pregnancy ever. super innovative.
zhang ziyi. another controversial color. i adore it.

kate hudson. hippie chic.
jessica alba. a goddess dress. it flows in such a graceful way.

eva longoria. flaunting what she's got. i'm jealous.
brooke shields. flirty and spirited.

the short ones. more fun, spunky, and bold.

miley cyrus. sbi. she did it right for once.
ginnifer goodwin. bomb shoes. pixie haircut = to die for.
fergie. i usually never like her style, but it's just a perfect rocker look.

and from this year.

vera farmiga. sophisticated mermaid dress.
heidi. ice princess.
lea michele. regal in black.

i would wear every single one.

On preferring Continuum to his 2009 disc Battle Studies: ”I know that I’m supposed to say that my newest is the best one. Bulls—.”

hallelujah. i definitely agree.

beauty in the breakdown

laptop is back from the dead. may we never part again. fingers crossed.

trip to syrup desserts complete. delicious tasty goodness. sweet grilled cheese = heaven on a plate. too bad it's all the way in downtown la. i'm going to try to replicate a few.

old friends make everything better. there's something unique about having history with people... stories, comfort, bonds, common ground. inside jokes.

started off first night back at school with a nightmare. woke up and thought the scary woman from my dream was standing in my room after looking at the shadows of my roommate's open closet without glasses. it was a drama queen moment.

youth in revolt has witty and amusing dialogue. i liked the song 'popular mechanics for lovers' by beulah.

cuddle sesh with my dog needed. while watching things i tivo and rummaging through the fridge.

and i CAVE. i'm going to see what dexter is all about. like i need another show to add to the list.

4 kicks

why i love diablo cody:

"ever rapper claims they run this town. someone must be lying."

ayo technology

i am too dependent on my laptop.

i want to check my emails, facebook, perez, etc. far too many times in one day.

macbook phone home.

the first cut is the deepest

day one.

i've made note of some firsts for today.

movie: star trek
food cooked: cheese fondue. it was actually pretty decent.
mocking dylan: he was eating a sandwich and got a cramp in his jaw from opening it too wide. he makes it too easy, huh?
sneeze: approximately 5:30pm
cut: the damn food processor and my finger had it out. it was ugly.

if i think of any other substantial ones-clearly along the lines of the aforementioned, of course-i'll add them.
